Every year, I do a "Longest Day" trip on the longest day of the year to a hotspot. Most years, I transition from going west one year, then east the next. Since I did Ogden Dunes last year, this year, Fostoria was on the docket; the crossing of two CSX mainlines and 1 NS mainline, and home of the Iron Triangle Railroad Park. It had been quite some time since I had been to Fostoria, and most times that I have been there in more recent memory, it has been quite slow. But, it is the crossing of three different sets of rail lines, so I knew rail action was definitely still high in number. So, I set off early to get my day started there in sunrise. My first train, however, ended up stopping me closer to Findlay than Fostoria. When I crossed the Fostoria District on CR 18, I could see the headlight of NS 29C to the east. Light was just beginning to show, so I decided to make it my first train of the day. A brand spanking new rebuild along with two other NS GEs led the short westbound stack train. |
