Here is page three of a five-page article by David P. Morgan entitled "The Train That Raced The Airplanes." It was published originally in the October 1952 issue of "Trains & Travel" magazine, page 20. Notable here is a short piece by Mr. Morgan entitled "The dressy but durable Daylights," including a photo of Southern Pacific engine #4454, a GS-4 (4-8-4) built by the Lima Locomotive Works during March of 1942 and retired in July of 1957 after just 15 years of revenue service. |
